Drupal 8 is in API freeze and headed for its first beta. Now is the time to start upgrading contributed modules so that they're ready the day 8.0 is released. We'll begin with a quick overview of how to start the module upgrade process, and provide some brief information about new Drupal 8 APIs, including:

While porting Display Suite to Drupal 8 I used it a lot and it looked a bit scary when I started with it.

The Search API in Drupal 8

Since the release of Drupal 7, the Search API module (along with its numerous extensions) has been providing a new, flexible way of creating searches in Drupal. It was considered as a model for core search in Drupal 8 at some point and is now used on Drupal.org for issue queue searches. However, as it was designed almost from scratch for Drupal 7, numerous shortcomings were identified in its architecture since its creation.
